A Gentle Start to 2010

Posted: 14th January 2010

Happy New Year to everybody who has been visiting my website.  January normally means practice and an early trip to Dubai to do some practice in the sunshine before starting the schedule in Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Dubai.  This year it has been snow and rehabilitation on my knee.

It is now nine weeks since I had my operation and I still haven't hit any golf shots.  I tried hitting a few pitch shots over Christmas with no success as the knee wasn't even strong enough for a minimal rotation involved in pitching.  However, the good news is I do feel I am very close and I have pencilled in a trip to Portugal next week to do some practice with Bob Torrance which will be overseen by Liam Hennessey, Padraig's fitness coach, who will also be there.  Hopefully if all goes well next week I am giving myself a 50% chance of playing Dubai but only 20% chance of playing Qatar, having already pulled out of Abu Dhabi.  The AT&T at Pebble Beach is a more realistic target and I do fancy my chances of that being my first event of this year.

The recovery has been slow but in the right direction, there was a lot more damage done to my knee than anticipated hence the slow recovery.  In hindsight, I do feel that carrying the injury through the second half of the season was a mistake and a contributing factor to me having such a poor season.

I will update you all again after my trip to Portugal in two weeks time when hopefully I will have some more good news.
