My Fitness
I struggle to maintain my weight and this really keeps me on my toes as I have a tendency to put on weight if I'm not careful! I generally weigh between eleven and a half and twelve stone and have managed to keep this constant over the past 10 years or so. This is an insight as to how I manage to stay in control.
At Home
To keep in trim I have converted a garage at home into a gym where I have a treadmill, weight lifters bar and several free weights. I only walk on the treadmill and generally use it on an incline (i.e. uphill) and will do sessions of between 15 and 40 minutes. I also enjoy swimming which I try and do two or three times a week - this really helps with general overall toning of the entire body.
On Tour
I spend a lot of time in the Race To Dubai fitness trailer every week where the excellent physiotherapists keep me in shape while also enjoying a great deal of banter with them. Massages and loosening up muscles are the main treatments that I get.
My general fitness is overseen by Paul Hurrion a bio-mechanist. My physio at home is Sophie Denin from Scorpio clinic in Virginia Water, Surrey.
Weight Maintenance
As I can gain weight easily I try to cut down on wheat based products, i.e, bread and pasta and try to eat a balanced diet of vegetables, salad, carbohydrates and protein. I'm not a big drinker but do have the occasional glass of wine. I weigh myself regularly and check out my BMI (Body Mass Index) just to make sure I'm going in the right direction!
Other
I also wear Orthotics in all of my shoes. This makes sure that my heel is hitting the ground first and helps me to walk correctly. Before I wore them I had various injuries caused by walking incorrectly.
